Grapevine Solar Panel Cleaning

Grime on your panels slowly cuts the power they make, often without you noticing. We wash each array by hand using soft brushes and purified water, look over the panels and wiring while we work, and leave your yard just as we found it.

What a Cleaning Does for Your System

Solar panels work best when sunlight reaches the cells without a film in the way. Over a few months, a thin layer of dust, pollen and grime settles on the glass. Bird droppings are worse, because a single spot can shade part of a cell and pull down the output of the whole string.

Around Grapevine, spring pollen and dry, windy summers leave more on the glass than a light rain can rinse away. Rain often just moves the dirt to the bottom edge of each panel, where it dries into a muddy line. A proper cleaning clears that edge and the rest of the surface so your panels can do the job you paid for.

We keep it simple. We clean, we look, and we tell you plainly what we saw. If everything looks healthy, you hear that. If something needs attention, we show you photos and explain your options.

What Every Cleaning Includes

Hand washing with soft brushes
We use brushes made for solar glass, never pressure washers or scrubbing pads. High pressure can force water past seals and scratch the anti-reflective coating.
Purified rinse water
Regular tap water leaves mineral spots as it dries. We rinse with filtered, purified water so the glass dries clear without streaks.
Spot treatment for droppings and sap
Baked-on bird droppings and tree sap get soaked and lifted gently. We do not scrape them off with anything that could mark the glass.
A visual check of the array
While we're up there, we look for cracked glass, loose wiring, gaps where critters nest, and signs of hail damage. You get photos of anything worth a second look.
Before-and-after photos
We snap pictures of the panels before and after so you can see the difference, even though you can't see your roof from the ground.
Ground-level cleanup
Runoff and debris are kept away from flower beds, patios and cars where we can. We pick up after ourselves before we leave.

Signs Your Panels Are Due for a Cleaning

  • Your production has dipped

If your monitoring app shows lower output on clear days compared with the same month last year, dirt is a likely cause. It's worth ruling out before you assume something is broken.

  • You can see a film from the ground

Panels should look dark and glossy. A gray or yellow haze usually means dust and pollen have built up.

  • Birds have found your roof

Droppings on the glass block light in concentrated spots. Birds roosting near the array can also mean they're nesting underneath it.

  • Trees hang over the array

Leaves, sap and pollen collect fastest on panels near oaks and other shade trees.

  • A muddy line along the bottom edge

When rain rinses dust downward, it dries in a band along the lower frame and can shade the bottom row of cells.

How the Cleaning Day Goes

  1. 1

It starts with a phone call

Share your panel count, how high and steep the roof is, and anything odd you've spotted lately. You'll get your quote during that call, and we settle on a date that works around your week.

  2. 2

We arrive and set up safely

Our crew uses proper fall protection on every roof. We'll ask whether the system should be switched off for the cleaning and walk you through it if so.

  3. 3

We clean in the cooler hours

Splashing cold rinse water onto glass that has been baking all day is a sudden temperature swing we'd rather not put your panels through. Midday heat also evaporates the rinse before it can sheet off, which leaves spots behind. So we book mornings whenever we can, and summer jobs almost always start early.

  4. 4

    We inspect and photograph

Once the glass is clear, damage is easier to spot. We check each panel, the mounting hardware we can see, and the wiring beneath the edges.

  5. 5

We walk you through what we found

You get the photos and a plain summary. If anything needs fixing, we'll explain it and you decide what happens next.

What Goes Into the Cost of a Cleaning

We base most cleaning prices on how big the array is and how easy it is to get to. You hear the price on the phone before we book, so there are no surprises. If we spot a problem while we're there, we point it out and you decide whether to deal with it later.

How many panels you have
A bigger array takes longer on the roof and uses more purified water. Cleaning a few panels on a garage runs less than covering a whole roof.
Roof height and steepness
Taller homes and steeper roofs need more safety equipment and slower work up top, which lengthens the visit.
How much grime has built up
Glass that has gone years without a wash, or is coated in droppings and sap, takes longer soaking and extra passes.
Ground rack or rooftop
An array on a ground rack is normally faster to get to and clean than one up on the roof.

Panel Cleaning Questions

Something not covered here? (817) 318-6892

How often should my panels be cleaned?

Once or twice a year suits most residential systems. Late spring, after the pollen has settled, is a smart time to schedule. Overhanging trees or a lot of bird activity may call for more frequent visits.

Won't the rain do the job on its own?

Rain helps a little, but it rarely gets the panels truly clean. It tends to wash dust to the bottom edge, where it dries in a band. Droppings and sap usually stay put until someone lifts them off.

Can I just hose them off myself?

Some homeowners do, but climbing a roof is the real risk, and tap water can leave mineral spots. Never use a pressure washer, harsh soap or abrasive pads, since they can damage the glass coating and seals. If you're not comfortable on a ladder, leave it to us.

Will cleaning affect my panel warranty?

Most panel makers expect regular cleaning, as long as it's done gently. Our method of soft brushes and purified water, without pressure washing or harsh chemicals, follows the kind of care manufacturers generally recommend. If you have your panel paperwork handy, we're happy to look at the cleaning guidance with you.

What if you spot a problem while you're up there?

You'll get pictures of it along with a plain-English rundown of what it means for your system. Smaller issues, like a loose wire or a cracked panel, are the kind of thing our solar repair service takes care of. Nothing extra gets done without your okay, and there's no pressure to decide on the spot.
